If snow falls on Thanksgiving, it will be first time in a decade

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The second snow for the season in Cleveland may be on Thanksgiving.

The National Weather Service forecasts a 60% chance of snow showers Thursday night sometime before 10 p.m., with less than half an inch of new snow accumulation possible. The snow is expected to come with low temperatures of 28 degrees.

If snow occurs on Thanksgiving night, it will be the first time it has snowed more than trace amounts on the holiday since 2014. That year, 7 inches of snow fell, the most snow ever falling in Cleveland on Thanksgiving.

In total, it has snowed 15 times on Thanksgiving since 1950.

But for this week, the forecast for snow doesn’t just stop on Thursday night.

There is a 60% chance of snow showers on Friday and 30% on Saturday. Further out, a 50% chance of snow showers is forecasted for Sunday and 40% on Monday.

Temperatures are not expected to rise above 35 degrees during the holiday weekend, except Thanksgiving day, with a forecasted high of 43 degrees.
