Muslim men in Johor must leave business premises during Friday prayers

ISKANDAR PUTERI, NOV 26 – Muslim male owners, employees and customers in this state are required to leave the business of buying and selling including food premises during Friday prayers.

Chairman of the Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee, Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid, said the move was to ensure that every Muslim man fulfills his obligations.

“The person who has to leave the business of buying and selling is a Muslim man, so this person should not do business, should not work and should not still eat when it is time for Friday prayers, but flexibility is given to non-Muslims and women.

“The Johor State Department of Islamic Religion (JAINJ) will enforce to ensure that all Muslim men in Johor perform Friday prayers,” he said at a press conference outside the Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session here today.

Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi when presenting the Johor Budget 2025 at the DUN conference last Thursday informed the state government that the Friday rest period for the public and private sectors will be extended to two hours from January 1 compared to only one hour and 30 minutes currently.

Meanwhile, Mohd Fared said the state government is ready to receive parents’ views on religious school students’ clothing every Friday following the realignment of the state’s weekend holidays to Saturday and Sunday starting next year. – Named
