Chiefs DT Tershawn Wharton saves child from falling out of stands

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WDAF) — Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton saved one young fan from disaster after the Chiefs win against the Panthers on Sunday.

As the Chiefs players were heading to the locker room following the victory, a boy in a Nick Bolton jersey reached out over a railing in the stands to greet Wharton as he approached him.

As Wharton took off his gloves to give to the young fan, he fell head-first over the railing before Wharton caught him and lifted him back up in the stands.

“It was a natural a reaction. Usually, when I leave the game, I try to throw my gloves in the crowd, and I think I heard my name a little, and when I heard my name, I seen him coming down,” Wharton said on the Pat McAfee Show. “I just had to kind of like, push him into the stands a little bit to make sure he didn’t hit too hard.”

Wharton hasn’t gotten a chance to speak to or meet the fan since their encounter, but he did invite him to a game.

“I would like to reach out to him, get him out to a game and be able to reflect with him a little bit more,” Wharton said.

The four-year pro is having the best season of his career, posting a career-high 2.5 in 11 games and 19 tackles.
