CLEVELAND, Ohio – A 38-year-old Cleveland man, wanted in Berea, was arrested at about 8:30 a.m. Nov. 22 after he barricaded himself with a hostage inside an apartment building on Superior between East 24th Street and East 25th Street.
The man was wanted in Berea for several felony offenses, including a fleeing-and-eluding charge stemming from a vehicle chase. Berea police knew he was in the Superior apartment building and asked the U.S. Marshals Service to help apprehend him.
When police arrived, the man barricaded himself in a room for about an hour. He told police he had a firearm and was holding a hostage.
The man said he refused to return to jail. He threatened to shoot police and himself. Police eventually coaxed the man to surrender peacefully.
Inside the apartment, police found a woman whom police recognized. She was a passenger in the man’s car when he previously led police on a vehicle chase.
Initially, the woman falsely identified herself to police. After checking, police correctly identified her as a 40-year-old Lakewood woman who was wanted for several felony offenses. Police arrested her.
Police also found a firearm and narcotics in the man’s apartment.
