Christmas Around the World ‘Theme Park’ opens Nov. 29 in Avon

Christmas Around the World ‘Theme Park’ opens Nov. 29 in Avon

AVON, Ohio Adam Roggenburk, president of USA Expositions, has been in the event business for more than 20 years. While his name may not be recognizable, his Oktoberfest extravaganza at the Cuyahoga County Fairground, and his Dyngus Day celebration are well known in Northeast Ohio.

When COVID hit in 2020, he paused for a moment and studied the market, seeking new entertainment opportunities. For inspiration he looked around the world.

“Europe is about five years ahead of us in how they do their events,” he said. “What I’m noticing in Europe is that they’ve always taken to Christmas and Christmas festivals. In the United States we’ve mostly had lights or drive-through lights.”

He sees Christkindl markets gaining popularity in the United States but saw an opportunity for something more, something immersive and multi-sensory.

And so, Christmas Around the World is being launched Friday, Nov. 29, at Crushers Stadium in Avon. It runs through Jan. 4, 2025

“We’re creating something Cleveland has never seen before – an experience where guests can explore the world’s most beloved holiday traditions, all in one place,” says Roggenburk in a press release. “From incredible cultural performances to delicious global cuisines, Christmas Around the World is designed to create lasting memories for families.”

Attendees will get passport stamps at each of 16 ethnically themed “rooms” within 12,000-square-feet of heated tents.

“Imagine stepping into a cozy North American log cabin, wandering through Greece’s illuminated tall ships, or celebrating Christmas at the beach in Australia’s giant sandbox,” he says. “From Mexico to Italy and Africa, each country will highlight its unique traditions through live entertainment, authentic food, and interactive experiences that immerse you in the season.”

The “theme park’ includes 200-foot tubing hill, miniature golf course with a global twist and a 52-foot animated Christmas tree. The Entertainment Tent will host live performances by global singing groups along with a bar and cozy seating.

Food trucks will serve holiday foods from around the world, including Italian fire-roasted pizzas, Mexican street food and Polish pierogies. The warm European Gluhwein – like cinnamon-y sangria — will also be available.

Of course, a sweet shop, Santa visit and s’mores over a firepit are part of the experience.

The only thing Roggenburk can’t control is the weather, but he’s wishing for snow to enhance the experience.

The experience is open Friday, Saturday and Sundays. It will be open two Mondays, Dec. 23 and Dec. 30. Tickets are $20 and $35 for adults, $16 and $30 for children.

Crushers stadium is at 2009 Baseball Blvd., Avon
