Woman injured in Paradise crash

Woman injured in Paradise crash

A woman was hospitalized with major injuries around noon Wednesday after a two-car crash near Pentz Road and Skyway in Paradise.

Paradise Police Officer Derek Archuleta said the woman pulled out from Gate Lane into the vehicle of a man driving south on Pentz Road around 11:52 am, during a period when ongoing traffic was being diverted from Skyway because of construction.

The woman, an older adult, reported neck and back pain, while the man sustained minor injuries. Cal Fire-Butte County personnel controlled traffic in the area until about 1 p.m

Archuleta said Pentz Road was receiving more car traffic than usual because of the construction detour and that he thinks the incident may not have happened if the detour were not for the detour.

Woman saved

The actions of a Marysville couple and their 6-year-old daughter saved a woman who was found head underwater Monday in Live Oak — and received special recognition because of it.

The woman, Robbie Carpenter, 75, of Marysville, reportedly crashed into an irrigation canal, about two feet deep with water, around 12:20 pm near Larkin and Paseo roads, according to CHP Yuba City.

The daughter of Cyle Johnson, 28, and Ashley Martin, 27, witnessed the crash while playing out front of a house visited by the family and alerted her parents. Johnson and Martin ran out front to the canal, found Carpenter unresponsive with her head underwater in the driver’s seat, cut her seatbelt to free her and then pulled her to safety. Carpenter was taken to a hospital sustaining only minor injuries.
