BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 27 – In an effort to empower the culture of reading among the people and residents of Brunei Darussalam, the Language and Library Council (DBP) offers a Reading Corner Service at the DBP Library.
Therefore, to add to the collection in the reading corner, the ceremony of handing over books donated by the Embassy of Ukraine to Brunei Darussalam (non-resident) and the inauguration of the Ukrainian Reading Corner was held at DBP Muara Library, today.
A total of 27 copies of books covering various topics such as politics, history, economy, art and culture were donated and exhibited at the Ukrainian Reading Corner.
The ceremony was officiated by the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pengiran Haji Rosli bin Pengiran Haji Halus.
In the ceremony, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Brunei Darussalam (non-resident), Her Excellency Kateryna Zelenko in her speech stated that the donated books were one of the efforts to introduce Ukrainian writers to the community in Brunei Darussalam.
The contribution of the book not only enriches the library’s collection but also becomes a link to introduce the cultural heritage, history and progress of Ukraine.
With the addition of the collection, readers have the opportunity to learn about the diversity of traditions, dynamic cultural identity and further understanding of Ukraine.
Earlier, Acting Director of DBP, Dr Haji Mohd Ali bin Haji Raden in his welcome speech, stated that the event was another step forward for the DBP Library in strengthening cultural ties between Brunei Darussalam and Ukraine.
The donation of books from the Embassy of Ukraine, he added, signifies a high spirit of cooperation and involvement to foster a sense of love for science, culture and literature among our society as well as the Ukrainian society.
