The actions of a netizen who wrote slanderous comments against singer IU finally paid off when she was sentenced to four months in prison.
Pleading guilty for the offense committed, the woman involved however applied for a reduced sentence on the grounds of suffering from mental problems.
He explained that he tends to write nasty comments on social media since suffering from the disease.
“I’m just expressing my personal opinion, I have a mental illness that affects my writing in the post.
“So I beg for my sentence to be reduced,” he said during the trial.
The Seoul Central Court made the decision last Tuesday.
It follows his action of writing more than 30 comments insulting IU in addition to spreading false information about the singer on several social media platforms.
Previously, IU was one of the celebrities who took a firm stance in suing netizens who spread bad words against her since 2013.
According to its management company, EDAM Entertainment, as many as 180 individuals regardless of age have already been subjected to legal action, with some being sent to moral or juvenile guidance centers. – Agency
