WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A now-15-year-old boy arrested in connection to a drive-by shooting that happened in January is scheduled to be tried as an adult.
It happened on January 26, around 11:56 p.m., in the 5200 block of E. Kensington St. when police responded to the report of shots fired. Emoni Shears, 14, and Jhiquez Roberts, 19, walked into a hospital, where they died a short time later.
The suspect, who was 14 at the time, was arrested Saturday afternoon. He was charged the following week in juvenile court with two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated attempted robbery.
The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office tells KSN that a judge has granted the state’s motion to try the teen as an adult. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in adult court on Dec. 12.
KSN has chosen not to identify the teen at this time.
