SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks placed forward Barclay Goodrow on injured reserve Thursday and recalled Ethan Cardwell from the San Jose Barracuda.
Goodrow left Wednesday’s game against the Ottawa Senators with an upper-body injury midway through the first period. It was not immediately clear how Goodrow was injured, but he was hit from behind and knocked down by Senators forward Ridly Greig, causing him to go off the ice after just a 26-second shift.
Goodrow took three more shifts in the first period before he left the game. The Sharks announced at the start of the second period that Goodrow would not return. This season, Goodrow has two goals and was averaging 15:17 in ice time in 24 games before Wednesday.
This is the second time Cardwell has been recalled from the Barracuda, as he played three games with the Sharks from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 when Ty Dellandrea was on IR. Cardwell did not have a point in three games but averaged 12:44 in ice time as he became one of the team’s penalty-killers.
This season for the Barracuda, Cardwell has seven points in 13 games.
