Georgia (9-2, 6-2 SEC) piled on late to pull away from UMass, 59-21. The Bulldogs were recently ranked No. 7 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
The Minutemen, who trailed by just 10 early in the third quarter, gashed Georgia’s run defense for 226 yards. That’s the most at home in the Kirby Smart era since his first season against Louisiana-Lafayette (276). A troubling sight for a Bulldogs team preparing for the SEC championship game.
Georgia will play the winner of Texas vs. Texas A&M.
Georgia’s offense is averaging 426.9 yards per game, including 297 passing yards per game. The unit has been known to slowly emerge as the game progresses.
Senior quarterback Carson Beck has thrown for 3,132 yards, 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His 81.9 QBR is the ninth-highest in the nation. Beck has six touchdowns with no interceptions in his last two games. He had tossed nine interceptions in the prior four games.
Georgia has notched over 90 points in the last seven quarters.
One of Beck’s top targets, junior receiver Dillon Bell, is doubtful. Bell has recorded 35 receptions for 405 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 11.6 yards per reception.
Senior receiver Arian Smith has 40 receptions for 695 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 17.4 yards per reception. Senior receiver Dominic Lovett has hauled in 48 receptions for 524 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 10.9 yards per reception.
Junior tight end Oscar Delp has 14 receptions for 192 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 13.7 yards per reception.
With junior running back Trevor Etienne injured, freshman running back Nate Frazier has found his mojo in the backfield. He has tallied 112 carries for 537 yards and seven touchdowns. Etienne has not played since the Ole Miss loss back on Nov. 9.
Senior offensive lineman Tate Ratledge has been a key reinforcement for the Bulldogs front line in protecting Beck. Georgia has only allowed one sack since his two-game return.
Despite allowing back-to-back 100-yard rushers, Georgia’s defense has been solid, allowing 18.5 points per game and 311.7 yards of total offense, including 186.5 passing yards and 125.2 rushing yards per game.
The Bulldogs have won 30 consecutive games at Sanford Stadium (longest active streak in FBS) and have won six in a row against the rival Yellow Jackets with an average margin of victory at 29.3 points. Georgia has won 19 of the last 22 meetings and lead the all-time series, 71-41-5.

Georgia Tech (7-4, 5-3 ACC) is coming off a thrilling 30-29 victory over NC State. A season that began with a stunning victory in Ireland can become even more shocking if they can pull off the upset against the rival Bulldogs in the latest installment of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.
The Yellow Jackets offense is averaging 27.9 points per game and piling up 414.7 total yards, including 234.6 passing yards and 180.1 rushing yards per game.
Junior quarterback Haynes King is back after a shoulder injury. He has notched 1,607 yards and nine touchdowns to just one interception. The dual threat also has 468 rushing yards and eight scores on the ground.
Freshman quarterback Aaron Philo has filled in during his absence, tallying 565 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. The two were used in an unpredictable offense against the Wolfpack. That strategy could be replicated between the hedges.
Junior receiver Malik Rutherford has nabbed 55 receptions for 627 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 11.4 yards per reception.
Junior running back Jamal Haynes provides a punch, tallying 138 carries for 717 yards and nine touchdowns. Georgia Tech is 7-0 when rushing for 119 yards or more. They are 0-4 when failing to meet that threshold.
The Yellow Jackets are allowing 23.1 points per game while also giving up 340.5 yards total, including 219.3 passing yards and 121.3 rushing yards per game.
The defense has struggled to get to the quarterback, ranking 118th in the nation in sacks per game with 1.36. Georgia Tech has also been lacking in the punting department, ranking 103rd in the nation in net punting at 37.1. They will oppose Ray Guy Award finalist (nation’s best punter) Brett Thorson, who is ranked fifth with 43.5.
The Yellow Jackets could find success in an aggressive pressure scheme. Beck is a shell of himself when pressured this season, completing just 34% of his passes while connecting for three touchdowns and five interceptions.
Another area to watch is their ability to stuff the opposition on third downs. Georgia is converting just 41% of its third down attempts.
Under third-year head coach Brent Key, Georgia Tech has knocked off two top-10 teams this season, including handing the Miami Hurricanes their first loss. They finished with back-to-back winning records in the ACC for the first time since 2013-14.
In the past 22 years, the Yellow Jackets have notched victories over Georgia in 2008, 2014 and 2016. Who will hoist the coveted Govenor’s Cup in 2024?
