BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 29 – Four Japanese culinary program students from Ohka High School recently visited Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam High School (SMPIHM) under the Japan-East Asia Student and Youth Exchange Network (JENESYS) program.
During the visit, the students conducted a sushi-making demonstration, showcasing the techniques of preparing nigiri and maki rolls. Meanwhile, SMPIHM students did not miss out on sharing the culture of Brunei by teaching their guests how to play the gulintangan, a traditional Bruneian musical instrument.
The teachers at SMPIHM also showed how to prepare ambuyat which is a famous Brunei dish.
The event serves as an exchange of culinary and cultural traditions, where the purpose is to foster mutual understanding and strengthen relations between Brunei and Japan.
The JENESYS program, supported by the Japanese government, promotes cultural exchange and regional cooperation among East Asian countries.
SMPIHM has also thanked Ohka Middle School and the Japanese Embassy for the visit. The event ended with an exchange of souvenirs between the participants, which symbolizes the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
