CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s been a week since George Pickens and Greg Newsome II went at it after the Browns defeated the Steelers, 24-19.
During Steelers media availability on Friday, Pickens was asked if he knew of any possible fines from the NFL due to the heated moment.
Pickens simply stated, “I’m just here so I won’t get fined.”
In fact, it’s a reply he used for most of the questions asked on Friday, especially when asked Steelers-related questions such as red zone issues.
Question after question, Pickens replied, “I’m just here so I won’t get fined.”
There were a couple questions where Pickens didn’t use that reply. Such as when asked about fellow Georgia University alum and NBA star Anthony Edwards saying Pickens is his favorite non-basketball athlete. Pickens responded, “He’s a great basketball player.”
The “I’m just here so I won’t get fined” reply was popularized after Marshawn Lynch used it repeatedly ahead of the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl XLIX matchup with the New England Patriots.
His reply became a viral moment and popular meme used ever since.
The Pickens-Newsome scuffle started behind the end zone on the final play of their Week 12 matchup. Referees and security personnel had to break the two apart.
Newsome posted on X after the game, “Fake tough guy,” followed by three laughing emojis.
Pittsburgh’s Mike Williams could be seen attending to Pickens in the midst of the fight breaking up.
“I don’t know what was going on. I was looking for him, and then I seen him in the stands, so I just went over there to get him. I don’t know what was going on,” Williams said.
Pickens made his feelings known after the game regarding the Browns winning in such nasty weather conditions.
“Conditions played a huge, huge part in today’s game,” Pickens said. “I don’t really think the Cleveland Browns are a good team at all. I think the conditions saved them today.”
