China establishes medical research institute powered by quantum computing

BEIJING, DEC 10 – China has established the country’s first medical research institute powered by quantum computing and data in eastern China’s Anhui Province, reports said. China Science Daily yesterday.

The Hefei Medical Data and Quantum Computing Research Institute, which was jointly established by Bengbu Medical University and Origin Quantum Computing Technology (Hefei) Sdn Bhd was officially launched last Sunday.

The institute is dedicated to harnessing the power of quantum computing in medicine and commercializing its research achievements, according to the report.

Quantum computing represents a new type of computer power in medicine. Its success has been seen in the United States where the world’s first quantum computer adapted for medical use has been built and is carrying out practical applications in various fields.

The new institute, which leverages its strengths in quantum computing, medical research and talent development, will carry out real-world verification of quantum medical algorithms, thereby promoting close cooperation between quantum computing and medical research and advancing the training of data medicine professionals and empowering China’s medical data security and applications with computing. quantum, the report said.

Guo Guoping, deputy director of the Main Laboratory of Quantum Information of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the University of Science and Technology of China and chief scientist of Origin Quantum, said the new institute will promote collaboration between China’s independent quantum computing power and its vast medical data. This approach will also be used to explore new avenues for nurturing talent in quantum data medicine.

Last year, Bengbu Medical University and Origin Quantum achieved China’s first breakthrough in using a domestically developed superconducting quantum computer in medical research. This achievement has improved the detection efficiency of breast molybdenum targets, showcasing the advantages of quantum computing power.

The two parties are now jointly exploring the acceleration of small molecule drug development with quantum computing power. The effort is based on Origin Wukong, China’s self-developed superconducting quantum computer manufactured by Origin Quantum, according to the report.

Since launching in January, Origin Wukong has completed 298,000 quantum computing tasks for users from 137 countries and regions around the world. – Xinhua
