HONG KONG, NOV 1 – Hong Kong authorities yesterday alleged that a foreign man killed a 25-year-old Southeast Asian woman, whose body was found in a waterfall area.
The woman was found in a pool at Waterfall Bay Park on Monday and pronounced dead at the scene, where police later said she had suffered head injuries.
The victim was a maid who did not work with the suspect, police said.
A 34-year-old foreigner man was arrested a day later with his 36-year-old wife from Hong Kong when they returned from mainland China.
According to South China Morning Post Hong Kong, the man was identified as a British businessman. The British Consulate did not immediately respond to inquiries AFP about the case.
The woman’s death was classified as a homicide because there was no evidence to suggest it was a natural occurrence, China’s police chief, Sin Kwok-ming, told reporters.
A preliminary post-mortem examination revealed head injuries and the cause of death was suffocation due to suffocation, police added.
Police said the two suspects went to the waterfall together last Sunday but after half an hour the man left alone.
He did not contact the police and immediately left Hong Kong, which the Sin ruler described as an unreasonable move.
