The protagonist of “fargo” and “Boardwalk Empire”66, was attacked Wednesday morning in Kips Bay, Manhattan, and taken to a nearby hospital with bruising, swelling and bleeding in the left eyeaccording to police sources post.

“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” according to a Sunday statement from his publicist. “He is doing well and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, although it is incredibly sad for everyone that this happened to him while he too was walking the streets of New York,” he added.

The New York Police Department issued an unnamed statement about the assault on Wednesday. Buscemi’s representative confirmed on Sunday that the victim of the attack not identified in the police statement was the actor. The police department said no arrests had been made and that the investigation continued.

Police said the random attack occurred around 11:48 a.m. Wednesday in front of 369 Third Avenue. “I saw he was with a woman, and then through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards,” a local worker who witnessed part of the attack told the Post.

The NYPD released surveillance photos of the alleged attacker, a bearded man wearing a baseball cap, a blue T-shirt and black sweatpants.

Last week’s unprovoked attack makes him the second actor from the popular series to fall victim to street violence in New York this year. Buscemi’s co-star in “Boardwalk Empire”, Michael Stuhlbarg, was hit in the back of the head with a rock while walking through Central Park in Manhattan on March 31. Stuhlbarg pursued his attacker, who was detained outside the park.
