After a tropical night, Switzerland is about to cool off: a cold front will be followed by violent thunderstorms first, then the mercury will cool enough to cause bisque over the weekend.
It was a relatively warm night for Switzerland: at 6:20 a.m. at Vevey VD on Lake Geneva it was 24.4 degrees Celsius, according to MeteoSwiss. Würenlingen AG measured 23.6 degrees, Cham ZG 23.3 degrees, Neuenberg 22.3 degrees and Zöllikofen near Bern measured 21.4 degrees. Basel-Binningen recorded 21.3 degrees, even in St. Gallen it was 20.3 degrees.
According to Meteoswiss, this was sometimes even enough for the hottest night since the measurements began, for example at Zurich-Kloten airport (21.9 °C) or Schaffhausen (22 °C). However, at several measurement centers in Mitteland, the thermometer dropped slightly below the 20 degree mark in the morning. It was really cold at 8.1 degrees on the Swiss pole of cold at La Brevin in the Neuchâtel Jura.

For Friday evening, the weather services predicted a humid, hot day with 32 to 34 degrees and a cold “with a bang”, as MeteoNews wrote on Twitter. A cold front, approaching from the west, sometimes causes violent thunderstorms, especially in the second half of the day, in low-lying areas.
It is already possible to rain in the east. In the afternoon, it will be cloudy first in the mountains and then in the low-lying areas and then it will disperse. At some places, rain may continue till Saturday morning. Bise will only allow the thermometer to rise to about 25 degrees on Saturdays. It will be sunny on Sunday and the temperature will be around 26 degrees.
