Arrests after Go-Outdoors ram raided and stock stolen

Police have made three arrests after a ram raid on a Bury store in which thousands of pounds worth of clothing was stolen.

The force’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit pulled over a vehicle which they believed was involved in a recent ram-rad at Go-Outdoors store in the town.

The vehicle was one of a number stopped overnight by the team throughout Greater Manchester and in total seven suspects were taken into custody.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “A busy night for our vehicle interceptors who brought back seven burglary suspects to custody overnight.

“In Bury two women – aged 36 and 47 – and a 50-year-old man were arrested after we spotted a vehicle we believe was involved in a recent ram-raid at a Go Outdoors store in the town.

“Thousands of pounds worth of clothing was found that we suspect was stolen from the store.”

He added: “Our covert cops in Manchester sighted a parked car that’s understood to have been recently stolen.

“Thanks to some help from locals we were able to locate the men – aged 19 and 21 – who’d left it there to nip in for a takeaway in Levenshulme before they came with us to custody.”

In the city a 39-year-old man and 40-year-old woman were detained after police stopped a suspected stolen car.

A police spokesman said: “We’re committed to tackling this invasive and ruinous crime with our officers attended every burglary report made to us in GM as part of OpCastle to maximise every opportunity to bring offenders to justice.

“Our Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit are out day and night proactively targeting those we think are involved in burglaries and other car crime – with over 600 arrests last year and £8.5m worth of vehicles recovered.”
