Arsenal deserved to win the Premier League – signing Declan Rice can help Gunners take next step, says Emmanuel Eboue

  • Brought to you by Ladbrokes

IN AN exclusive interview with Ladbrokes, former Arsenal star Emmanuel Eboue believes a player like Declan Rice would really help his old club.

I don’t see Mikel Arteta doing anything different this weekend; I think he’ll stick to the 11 players he knows best.

He has to beat Wolves. It’s a home game, the last day of the season.

He has to put out his strongest side, and they have to win the game, end the season on the high and head into the summer on a positive.

I believe in this team – I really do. They have to strengthen and bring in some more experienced heads, but I think they’re capable of doing much, much better than they did this year.

They deserved to win the league this season, but the team has learned some big, big lessons in the last few weeks. You have to keep going until the very end.

You see rumours around Declan Rice joining. That’s a player who would really help Arsenal push on.

I’m so confident in that. I think they’re going to bring in some big names and come back even stronger.

They’ll play attractive football as always and I think they’ll give the fans at least one trophy to celebrate next season.

Maybe their best signing might be Bukayo Saka, who signed a new contract with the club this week.

He is an unbelievable player, and keeping hold of him is huge for the future of the team.

But these contracts these days don’t mean anything. You can sign them, but if a club comes along and puts an even bigger number in front of him, then you never know.

He might end up leaving, so it’s vital they’re challenging for trophies next season because that’s how they have the best chance of keeping hold of Saka.

IRISH GUINEAS WEEKEND IS HERE

By Nicola McGeady

We have an action packed schedule of racing at the Curragh this weekend, when the Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival takes centre stage.

The 2000 Guineas is the big one, and what an intriguing looking contest we have in store.

It takes serious class to win this race, with eight of the last 10 winners being rated 110 or above.

When you consider everything, it’s hard to look away from the favourite, Royal Scotsman.

He stays the trip, he is rated 118, the ground will suit, he’s won at Group level and he is proving very popular with punters.

He is shortening all the time and is 15/8 as I write this.

There are a few interesting outsiders that could warrant an each way flutter.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Cairo showed smart form as a two-year-old and could represent some value at 12/1.

On Sunday, the Irish Gold Cup is shaping up to be the race of the weekend, as we could be treated to a rematch between Vadeni and his old foe Luxembourg.

The race looks a vintage renewal, attracting overseas challengers, and I can’t wait!

In the Irish 1000 Guineas, Dermot Weld’s Tahiyra is the one to beat, but nobody matches Aidan O’Brien in this race, and after being supplemented, Jackie Oh is on my radar.

GALWAY FOR SAME

I think it is time to nail my colours to the mast and predict an All-Ireland winner.

Realistically, I see six teams who can beat each other on a given day.

Namely, the provincial winners Kerry, Derry, Galway, and Dublin, alongside Mayo and Armagh.

However, with the players Padraic Joyce has brought into the mix at Galway this year, I fancy them to lift the Sam Maguire for the first time since 2001.

Louth will need to show huge character to bounce back from the Leinster Final defeat when they take on Cork.

Mickey Harte will want to keep things tight at the back and hope that players like Sam Mulroy and Ciaran Downey can get the scores up front.

Cork will be very disappointed by the Clare defeat and can count themselves lucky to be playing in the All-Ireland series.

I am going to back Louth to win this at 7/4.

I think Westmeath will struggle against Armagh.

The Orchard County are simply playing at a much higher level. Armagh for the win, and Rian O’Neill for the first goal.

Derry have gone about their business with great efficiency and look the real deal this year.

I don’t see where Monaghan have the personnel up front to beat this Derry machine.

Derry will win this game.
