Band A customers protest two-hour power supply

Band A customers protest two-hour power supply

Residents of Akoka in Lagos State say they only get two hours of electricity despite being migrated to Band A.

The residents took to the streets on Tuesday to protest the development, calling on the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company to come to their rescue.

With placards in their hands, the protesters said, “Akoka is totally neglected. Our business is dying daily. Save our souls in Akoka.”

In a video sighted by our correspondent, one of the protesters said they had made several appeals to the nearest IKEDC office, but all to no avail.

She stated that the residents pay for Band A, but they get a low power supply daily.

“Yes, we have agreed that we have been moved to Band A. We paid for Band A, but we do not have light. We have been starving. We went from having a constant power supply to barely having a two-hour supply daily. It is affecting our businesses. It is affecting our environment. Everywhere is polluted. Everywhere is no longer comfortable.

“So, we are here peacefully to demonstrate the level of discomfort and how unhappy we feel. We have been going to the Ikeja Electric office close to our community but they’ve refused to answer us. And that is why we are gathered here this morning.

“So, we are pleading to Ikeja Electric and the appropriate authorities to listen to our cries to save our communities. Akoka has always been a good community and we want it to remain like this,” she said.

The spokesperson of Ikeja Electric, Kingsley Okotie, has yet to reply to messages seeking a reaction from the DisCo at the time of filing this report.

Recall that Band A customers are supposed to get not less than 20 hours of electricity supply daily.
