Sport: On Sunday, Barcelona lost 2-3 away to Real Madrid in El Classico, and perhaps Barcelona were cheated of a goal at 1-1 after 27 minutes of play.

The linesman did not mark that the ball was over the line, and VAR’s camera angles could not definitively establish whether the ball had been in or not. Thus, the linesman’s decision not to approve it as scoring stood.

– It is a shame that we do not have goal line technology. If we want to be the best league in the world, then we have to have it, Xavi said after the match.

The technology is used, among other things, in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and in the Dutch honors division. In the Norwegian Eliteserien, the goal line technology has not been used either.

The Spanish top division said no to goal-line technology in 2017. At the time, it would have cost around NOK 40 million to have it introduced, and in addition there would have been running costs.

– It is sad for football that it was not introduced. There is so much money in this sport, but it is not spent on what is most important, said Barcelona’s German goalkeeper Marc-Andr√© ter Stegen.

Barcelona ended up taking a 2-1 lead in Sunday’s clash, but two Real Madrid goals turned the game around and saw Real Madrid extend their lead in La Liga to 11 points before the last six rounds of the series.
