How long have you been in the music industry?
I’ve been singing from a young age, but it officially started in 2014, with a song I did that went viral. After that, people began to invite me to perform at shows.
Were you involved in anything else before music?
No, I’m currently studying Computer Science. When my song went viral in 2014, I was still in secondary school, in SS2.
How has it been balancing your studies and music career?
I have been doing my best to balance both by planning strategically. I try to ensure that neither my music nor my education interferes with the other, and everything has been going well so far.
Many creatives find it difficult to balance their careers with academics. What’s your take on that?
I don’t think it’s ideal to neglect education. Whatever you desire to pursue in life, having an education gives you an advantage. Education sets you apart, even if you are in a trade or vocational field. Let’s assume someone is a vulcaniser and is educated; the person’s way of rendering services will be different from that of someone that is uneducated. That has been my belief right from time. I love education and I believe that if I succeed in my career and education, I will be greater than what I am expecting.
Are your lecturers aware that you’re a musician?
Yes, they are aware.
How do they perceive your music career?
Not all my lecturers know, but those who do haven’t said anything negative. They wish me well. For instance, my examination officer saw one of my performances on TikTok, and when I went to his office, he was surprised.
During my National Diploma days at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, I was even awarded Best Artist of the Year during Student Union Week.
What are your plans for the future as a musician and a student?
My next song is set for release at the end of this month. Although I haven’t released any music this year, several artists have featured me in their music. I am also fully committed to my studies at the moment.
