BIBD warns to be aware of online fraud

By Sim YH

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, DEC 10 – BIBD wants to warn the public about financial fraud where fraudsters impersonate BIBD employees on social media to offer online loans and unlicensed financial schemes.

According to a statement issued by BIBD, here, the fraudsters misuse the BIBD logo, images and create fake testimonials to gain trust and further deceive victims into sharing their banking or personal information.

Such scams exploit individuals by providing false financial offers that promise quick approval and minimal requirements. Those who fall victim to these scams can experience significant financial losses, bank account intrusions and sensitive information misused for criminal purposes.

BIBD emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant and verifying the authenticity of any account or communication claiming to be from BIBD.

Engaging in unlicensed financial services carries serious risks as operations are outside regulatory protection, leaving individuals vulnerable to exploitation and fraud.

Fake offers made through social media, especially from unauthorized accounts, are designed to mislead individuals into sharing sensitive information or making payments under false pretenses.

In that connection, customers are advised to only deal with verified institutions and through official channels to protect their personal and financial data.

In that direction, BIBD advises the public to only obtain financial facilities from financial institutions licensed by the Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB), avoid online loan offers or financial schemes made through social media or other unofficial platforms, confirming that any any communication or offer claiming to be from BIBD is from BIBD’s official social media accounts marked with blue check verification on Instagram and Facebook and immediately report any unlicensed financial schemes or suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.

The public is advised to remain vigilant and protect themselves from fraud. Any concerns or assistance can be obtained by contacting BIBF through the Call Center at 2238181.
