Policy: – This is a boost for Bodø and Ålesund to become greener cities with better accessibility, says Transport Minister Jon-Ivar Nygård in a press release.

The money will be given to cities that are outside the scheme of urban growth agreements and will, among other things, strengthen the investment in public transport, cycling and pedestrians.

The money cannot be used for the operation of public transport, but for example bus stops and pedestrian and cycle paths.

Ålesund and Bodø have met the criteria to receive a grant and will thus be awarded NOK 15.5 million each in 2024.

– In order to be allocated funds from the scheme, the urban areas must commit to reaching the zero growth target for passenger transport by car. There must also be a city package that has been processed in the Storting, says Nygård.
