Bolsonaro announces cheating to simulate military participation in coup act – 07/30/2022

Just when he intends to bar his teeth, in what would be an unequivocal demonstration of power, is that Jair Bolsonaro, the Republic’s great faker, evidences its isolation — which is also growing in the military environment. Attention: yes, it continues to be a perverse and dangerous element for democracy. That’s why the Charter in defense of the rule of law, which already has more than 500,000 signatures, is so important. But why do I say that it shows weakness in pretending to show strength? We will see.

This Saturday, he participated in a political event in São Paulo, at Expo Center Norte, which brought together two party conventions: the National, for the Republicans, and the state, for the PTB. Thus, Tarcísio de Freitas and Eduardo Cunha joined the president on the same platform. One will be a candidate for state government for the first party, and the other, for federal deputy for the second. In Cunha’s presence, “Mito” had the audacity to speak about fighting corruption… Side note: Brazilian politicians, beware! When the electorate of the state in which they were born and lived doesn’t pay any attention to them, try to deceive the people of São Paulo. Who knows… Let’s go to the latest farce.

In a speech in which he again told lies about the STF’s performance in the pandemic, the president announced that he will be present at the September 7 military parade in Brasília. It’s the tradition. Then, he referred to Rio in the following terms:
“We want, for the first time, to innovate in Rio de Janeiro. I know you wanted to [que fosse] here [em São Paulo], but we want to innovate in Rio de Janeiro. At 4 pm on the 7th of September, for the first time, our Armed Forces and our sisters Auxiliary Forces [PM e Corpo de Bombeiros] will be parading on Copacabana Beach, alongside our people. Our Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s postcard, a state allied to all of us, ally of the economy of São Paulo, let’s show that our people, more than wanting, have the right and demand peace, democracy, transparency and freedom” .

LET’S UNDERSTAND THE PATUSCADA
The military parade of 7 de Setembro, in Rio, always takes place in the center of the city, on Avenida Presidente Vargas. Bolsonaro is, according to the Constitution, the supreme commander of the Armed Forces. Can he order the act to take place elsewhere? He can.

According to him, he is moving the event precisely to Copacabana, the same place where his gang’s coup demonstration should take place. Did you understand the play? As he has already noticed that his attempt to run over the electoral process or to ignore the results of the polls is echoing less and less among the military, they are forcing friendship: he wants to change the location of the parade to simulate a adhesion to the coup that is non-existent today. .

The jester is making a scene. His supporters will attack the STF and the electoral system, especially if the polls continue to indicate the possible victory of Lula, and the uniformed parade would be showing, then, the adhesion of the barracks to the armed intervention in the name, how is it?, of “peace, democracy , transparency and freedom”.

Note that, unintentionally, he ends up denouncing that he tried to set up the circus in São Paulo. But, by all indications, he encountered resistance. In the state, the so-called “auxiliary forces” (MP and firefighters) are subordinated to the Public Security Secretariat, which is headed by retired general João Camilo Pires de Campos, who does not belong to the Bolsonarian circle. One of the stars of this Saturday’s event was, obviously, Tarcísio de Freitas, who disputes the votes of the right in the state with Rodrigo Garcia, candidate for reelection.

SCAMS IN SCAM
The coup, with the bows to those who, like this scribe, repudiate word games, has been suffering some blows.

One of the biggest is the massive adhesion of citizens from the most diverse sectors to the “Letter to Brazilians and Brazilians in Defense of the Democratic Rule of Law”, which already gathers more than 500 thousand signatories. Individuals without badges are its main strength, but the fact that it brings together practically all of the country’s legal conscience, in addition to business heavyweights, intellectuals, journalists and artists, gives a dimension of the scope of the appeal in favor of respect for game rules. The text has the great virtue of avoiding cheap politicization and preaching respect for the Constitution. Who is in the opposite direction?

There is more. The meeting that Bolsonaro promoted with foreign ambassadors to attack the electoral system in Brazil provoked revulsion among high officials. There is a behavior that, for this group, is anathema: politicians who attack their own country on foreign soil or to an audience, as was the case, international. “Unacceptable” was the mildest adjective.

Furthermore, there are four very eloquent recent demonstrations by the US government in favor of respecting the rules of the game. One of them was said out loud to Bolsonaro by Joe Biden, who refused the help requested by the Brazilian president to defeat Lula. After the ill-fated meeting with the diplomats, the US Embassy in Brazil issued a note expressing confidence in the electoral system, a position endorsed the following day by Ned Price, spokesman for the State Department.

On a trip to our country, the Secretary of Defense of the United States, General Lloyd Austin, said on Wednesday, the 27th, to his Brazilian counterpart, Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, that the Biden administration expects Brazil to maintain the tradition of holding fair elections. .

Video released by the US government was accompanied by the following text:
“Our shared democratic values are the cornerstone of our strong Defense relationship, and we are committed to working together for regional and global security.”

For those who didn’t understand: a coup would isolate the Brazilian Armed Forces, which would no longer count on the collaboration of their main ally — or, at least, this would be drastically reduced. And the same goes for two other democracies: France is a partner in the Navy’s nuclear program, and the Air Force has a close relationship with Sweden because of the Gripen fighters.

Reread the text: the “strong Defense relationship” depends on “shared democratic values”; these are your “cornerstone”.

CAN WE RELAX?
No, we cannot relax. More than ever, now yes, “the price of freedom is eternal vigilance”. Bolsonaro’s isolation in his coup-mongering rage only exists because there is mobilization; because those of us who are committed to defending democracy make the President of the Republic’s coup-plotting gibberish reach everyone and the entire world.

Precisely because he does not count on the spontaneous adhesion – which would obviously be illegal – to the coup demonstration, Bolsonaro tries to set the scene, pushing the military to participate, in a forced way, in his pantomime.

We are facing yet another crime of responsibility, as defined by Law 1079, subject to impeachment. But, we know, that would depend on Arthur Lira’s will. Otherwise, there’s no time for that. If he really creates the trick for the Armed Forces to participate in a coup act, the president also commits a common crime. Bolsonaro incurs Articles 359-L and 359-N of the Penal Code, namely:
Art. 359-L. – Attempt, with the use of violence or serious threat, to abolish the Democratic Rule of Law, preventing or restricting the exercise of constitutional powers:
Penalty – imprisonment, from 4 (four) to 8 (eight) years, in addition to the penalty corresponding to violence.

Article 359-N – To prevent or disturb the election or the measurement of its result, through undue violation of security mechanisms of the electronic voting system established by the Electoral Justice:
Penalty – imprisonment, from 3 (three) to 6 (six) years, and fine.

Crimes of responsibility die along with the end of the exercise of the position. The commons survive, and Bolsonaro can be held responsible for them later. That’s why some gunmen are already talking about the creation of the senator for life…

CLOSURE
Bolsonaro’s announcement, I reiterate, highlights his isolation. People with your temperament and profile are even more dangerous when cornered.

Let us never let our guard down.
