Bolton: Warburtons makes milestone school donation

He is known nationwide, and manages to get some of the world’s biggest stars to promote Bolton.

And this week, Jonathan Warburton, the CEO of the famous bread makers of Bolton, stepped out of his boardroom to meet some Bolton stars and deliver on a pledge of making one million donations – gifting the mileston product to a local school.

Warburtons, which has been based in the town since 1876, had pledged to donate a million products to community groups around the country over the course of this year.

Mr Warburton visited Church Road Primary School to deliver the millionth gift among the batch of toastie loafs and crumpets to children and staff.

Mr Warburton said: “Our family business has been supporting local communities since we began and it remains incredibly important to us to this day.

“I am really pleased we reached our commitment to donating one million products this year, it’s been a delight to visit Church Road Primary School today to meet some of the children our donations go towards supporting.”

The Warburtons donations are organised by local ‘community champions at the Bolton bakery and are amongst 189,787 donations the bakery has made across Greater Manchester

The historic firm has now set itself and even more ambitious target to deliver yet more donations across the country next year.

Mr Warburton said: “Things are difficult for so many families at the moment and we recognise how vital it is that we continue to listen and act so that we can help play our part in supporting families across the country as best we can.

“We look forward to helping out the community in the years to come and meet our next target of 1.25 million donations in the next 12 months.”

But for now, the most recent donations have been gratefully received by pupils and staff alike at Church Road Primary School.

Headteacher Deborah Docherty said: “It’s extremely important for us that children attending school aren’t hungry and the donations we receive from The Warburtons Foundation help us provide our pupils with the best start to the day.

“The donation today will not only support our children in school but provide them with something to take home as we know that there are many families for whom a loaf of bread is a great help right now.”
