MEXICO CITY, 15 NOV – Brazil’s Federal Police revealed yesterday that two explosions outside government buildings in Brasilia are being investigated as part of a terror plot by far-right extremist groups.
Agency Anatolia reported that a man detonated two bombs in a failed attack attempt.
The man, Francisco Wanderley Luiz, a member of the right-wing Partido Liberal (PL) party led by former President Jair Bolsonaro drove a car loaded with explosives towards the Supreme Court.
A fuse in the car ignited, causing an initial explosion but failing to detonate the larger bomb.
He then got out of the vehicle with explosives and detonators, then ran towards the entrance of the courthouse in an attempt to break into the building.
Seconds later, another explosion occurred, causing his death.
Authorities found that Luiz did not act alone and may have been assisted by extremist groups.
“We understand that yesterday’s incident was not an isolated incident but related to several other actions,” said Federal Police Director, Andrei Passos Rodrigues at a press conference. – Bernama
