Brief understand the elements, indicators of the crime of human trafficking

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 14 – The Human Trafficking Investigation Unit (USPM) from the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), Royal Brunei Police Force (PPDB) has held a briefing on the Crime of Human Trafficking, especially to the officers investigating criminal cases at the district police stations .

According to a statement issued by the PPDB, today, a total of 81 officers and members consisting of investigators from Brunei and Muara Police District stations attended a briefing held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Berakas Police Station, yesterday.

Briefing on the Crime of Human Trafficking for four days starting 13, 14, 16 and 18 November to the entire police district aims to know and understand in more detail the elements and indications in the investigation of the crime of human trafficking to the police on the front line, especially for officers- criminal case officer.

Among the matters presented in the briefing are the elements of human trafficking and indications that lead to the investigation of the crime of human trafficking.

A briefing on the Criminal Investigation of Human Trafficking was delivered by the Head of USPM, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hajah Anis @ Roszaffina binti Haji Ahmad.

Also presented is focusing on questions about the elements and indicators of the crime of human trafficking for preliminary investigation at the police station such as whether the victim was recruited through forced labor or sexually exploited, restricted his freedom to walk or contact anyone, whether the victim was made into sex slavery, sold or enslaved by anyone, is the victim under 18 years old and involved in prostitution, is the victim’s identification document confiscated and is the victim’s family threatened with harm if the victim escapes.

The presentation affirmed PPDB’s commitment to improve investigative capabilities in the fight against human trafficking.

By equipping investigators with advanced techniques, collaborative strategies and a deep understanding of the complexities of human trafficking, the police aim to strengthen efforts to protect vulnerable individuals and bring perpetrators to justice.

The initiative strengthens the dedication of the police force in dealing with the critical issue, fosters cooperation between agencies and ensures the well-being of the community.
