NEW ORLEANS, La. — Five days after Browns left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. revealed that he made “a business decision” not to face the Ravens on Oct. 27 because of his right knee injury, he was ruled out of the Saints game here tomorrow with a flare-up of the knee injury.
A source said the move had nothing to do with Wills’ business decision remarks, which Kevin Stefanski described as a “poor choice of words” for the 2020 No. 10 overall pick out of Alabama.
Wills, who underwent MCL surgery in December, returned to the field in Week 3 against the Giants, but aggravated the injury in that game and had to leave the field. He sat out the next week against the Raiders, but started Weeks 5-7 against the Commanders, Eagles and Bengals.
On the first play against the Bengals, Wills suffered a hyperextended knee, but gutted it out the rest of the game. The following week, he sat out practice all week and was ruled out of the Ravens game on Friday. The Browns had hoped he could be a gametime decision, but he didn’t feel up to it.
In other Browns roster news on Saturday, they placed Mike Hall Jr. on injured reserve, as expected, with a sprained knee, where he’ll remain for at least four games. Hall would be eligible to return for the final four games, beginning Dec. 15 against the Chiefs, but there’s a chance he’ll miss the rest of the season.
The Browns have also signed defensive tackle Sam Kamara and defensive end Elerson Smith to the active roster from the practice squad, and elevated receiver Kadarius Toney from the practice squad.
Kamara (6-0, 272), originally signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2021, is in his second NFL season out of Stony Brook. He’s appeared in 16 career games, including five with the Browns this season and seven overall here from 2022-24. Kamara will wear No. 92.
Smith (6-7, 245) is officially in his third NFL season out of Northern Iowa. Originally a fourth-round pick by the Giants in 2021, Smith has appeared in 13 career games. Smith will wear No. 52.
Toney (6-0, 193), originally a first-round pick by the Giants in 2021, is in his fourth NFL season out of Florida. Toney has appeared in 32 career games, recording 82 career receptions for 760 yards with three touchdowns, while adding 21 rushes for 119 yards and a score. Toney will wear No. 87.
