BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 8 – A total of 30 participants attended the Workshop titled ISO/TEC 17025:2017- General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories held by the Brunei Darussalam Standard and Accreditation Center (PSABD), Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE) in bilateral cooperation with the Malaysian Standards Department (JSM), Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry Malaysia (MITI) which took place at The Centrepoint Hotel, Bandar Seri Begawan last November 5 to 7.
Present to inaugurate the workshop was the Acting Director of Brunei Darussalam Standards and Accreditation Center (PSABD), MOFE, Dayangku Hajah Nadiah Annasyitah binti Pengiran DP Haji Abu Bakar.
In her welcome speech, Dayangku Hajah Nadiah emphasized the importance of the workshop in strengthening the understanding of the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Standard to ensure the laboratory operates efficiently and competently to produce accurate laboratory results for customers and stakeholders.
JSM’s Accreditation Director, Tuan Wan Rukiman Wan Mamat, as the workshop facilitator, explained in detail each standard clause.
The workshop also discussed practical aspects such as non-compliance, document control, internal audit, risk assessment, measurement uncertainty, management review and continuous improvement that will help improve effectiveness and efficiency in laboratory conformity assessment services.
The three-day workshop was attended by representatives from conformity assessment bodies (CAB) registered at PSABD, namely from government departments, higher education institutions and private companies.
The workshop is held in conjunction with World Accreditation Day 2024 and it is one of PSABD’s efforts in promoting a quality work culture for local testing and calibration laboratories by implementing a laboratory quality management system based on ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
World Accreditation Day is a global initiative by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) to promote the importance of accreditation with this year’s theme of Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future which shows the importance of the role of accreditation in technological innovation, digital transformation and sustainable development.
By organizing such workshops, PSABD demonstrates its commitment to promoting a culture of quality and excellence and aims to empower laboratories in the country to achieve and maintain the highest standards of technical efficiency.
