Slalom canoeist Ricarda Funk has won the overall kayak singles World Cup. The 2021 Olympic champion came fourth in the World Cup final in La Seu, Spain. That was enough to win the trophy with 252 points. The winner of the last World Cup was Spaniard Maialen Chourraut, ahead of Eva Tercelj from Slovenia and American Evy Leibfarth. Two-time Paris Olympic champion Jessica Fox from Australia came fifth.
At the Olympic Games in Paris, Funk did not make it into the medal ranks in either the K1 or the kayak cross. “It’s not what I’ve worked hard for all these years, but it’s a small consolation for the season. I showed my stability with that small outlier in Paris. Now I’m happy,” said the athlete from Bad Kreuznach, who trains in Augsburg.
