Car drives into group of people: Car drives into group of partying people

A driver drove into a group of people celebrating at a church festival in Großwallstadt in Lower Franconia. Five people were slightly injured, police said. It is still unclear whether it was an accident or whether the 58-year-old driver deliberately drove into the group of people. When asked, a police spokesman said the man may have had a heart attack. The Kerb – the church festival – was canceled after the incident.

The incident happened in the late afternoon in the town centre of Großwallstadt. The driver drove into a group of people sitting on benches and chairs on the street, said the police spokesman. Initially it was said that the car had ended up on the footpath.

Because the driver had to be resuscitated, it was initially assumed that a health problem was the cause of the accident, according to a police statement. However, as further investigations were carried out on site, it was assumed that it was possible that the driver deliberately drove into the group attending the church festival. “An expert was called in to clarify the course of events.”

In addition to the fire brigade, the rescue service and a crisis intervention team were on site to treat the slightly injured, including a ten-year-old child. The police are looking for witnesses. The three-day church festival in the town in the Miltenberg district began on Saturday and was due to end on Monday evening.
