CLEVELAND, Ohio — The ‘Dawg Pound’ has the blues with the Browns 2-8. Desperate for a win, will the team try wearing the undefeated Cavs ‘City Edition’ uniforms blue colors against the Steelers Thursday to start a winning streak or screw that up too?
Cavs spectacular season start continued with a 128-114 win over the Hornets to go 15-0. That’s tied for the second best season start in NBA history, trailing only the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, from whose staff the Cavs hired new Head Coach Kenny Atkinson.
The win over the Hornets was the debut of the Cavs 2024 ‘City Edition’ uniforms. The light blue color was inspired by the Cleveland Museum of Art and the ‘Cavs blue’ from their 1994 uniforms.
Large credit for the Cavs win streak has to go to new head coach Kenny Atkinson and owner Dan Gilbert who was more instrumental in Atkinson’s hiring than Koby Altman, President of Basketball Operations.
The end of the Browns Thursday night game against the Steelers marks the start of mini-bye week for the Browns. With a loss, will the Haslams be saying bye-bye to Kevin Stefanski as head coach when they should also be saying bye to O.C. Ken Dorsey and G.M. Andrew Berry, especially if Berry was behind the Browns ousting OC Alex Van Pelt, RB coach Stump Mitchell and Kareem Hunt after the team went 11-0? It’s unlikely Stefanski made that atrocious call. Be it Berry or Paul DePodesta who did, they should be gone before Stefanski.
Six of the Browns last seven head coaches have been fired after losses to the Steelers who the Haslams used to be minority owners of. Those coaches were Crennel, Mangini, Shurmer, Chudzinski, Pettine and Jackson. Freddi Kitchens was fired after a season ending loss to the Bengals.
The Bengals are said to be one of the NFL teams who may try to hire Browns special assistant Mike Vrabel if they fire their coach, along with the Raiders if they do the same.
Trying to keep Vrabel on staff would justify an in-season coaching change. If the Haslams go that route, they would be wise to try and hire back former GM John Dorsey from the Super Bowl contending Detroit Lions to replace Berry and DePodesta.
Berry was responsible for drafting one of the Browns biggest draft busts #1, offensive tackle and slacker Jed Wills. Waste of Haslams millions second only to the guaranteed contract Berry wrote up for Deshaun Watson.
Among John Dorsey’s draft picks are two of the Browns best players, Nick Chubb and Denzel Ward. Dorsey also brought in Kareem Hunt from the Chiefs, who’s now back with the Super Bowl contenders racking up yards and touchdowns after Berry didn’t resign him.
