China hosts the World Young Scientists summit

HANGZHOU, NOV 18 – Nearly 800 scientists from 71 countries and regions and 63 international science and technology organizations attended the World Young Scientists Summit (WYSS) 2024 held in Wenzhou city in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province yesterday.

Speaking at the plenary session of the summit, the President of the China Association of Science and Technology (CAST), Wan Gang said the wave of formatting, digitization and intelligence is accelerating a sudden change in the research paradigm and helping young people acquire knowledge and information more, widely, deeply and simple thus helping young scientists to make leaps and achieve great success.

While the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Rector of the United Nations University, Tshilidzi Marwala said young scientists play an important role in advancing the frontiers of science, creating a regional innovation ecosystem and fostering international cooperation, especially in addressing climate change and health and inequality issues.

Four young scientists from the United States, Britain, France and China won the second Young Scientist Sustainable Development Goals Award.

WYSS is co-sponsored by CAST and the Zhejiang provincial government. Since its inauguration in 2019, the summit has provided an open platform for scientists from more than 100 countries and built collaborative relationships with more than 200 international science technology organizations and universities. – Xinhua
