BEIJING, NOV 24 – China has released draft guidelines for the construction of the country’s data infrastructure, including upgrading its 5G network to the 5G-A standard and promoting 6G-related research, development and innovation.
China will balance the use of international communication gateways across its eastern, central and western regions, as well as develop international cable channels on the seabed and on land.
A satellite internet that integrates space and ground facilities will also be established, according to a document released by the national data bureau last Friday.
The guidelines, issued to gather opinions, say China will facilitate large-scale, low-cost, secure and free data flow and encourage industries and regions to actively explore new technology infrastructure such as blockchain and privacy-preserving computing, with the goal of providing a low-cost, efficient and reliable data delivery environment.
China will also continue the proper layout of computing resources and accelerate the green development and coordination of general purpose computing power, intelligent computing power and super computing power, according to the relevant guidelines.
The country also plans to strengthen the innovative application of the latest network technology, optimize network charging methods and reduce data transmission costs between its eastern and western regions.
The 5G-A network outperforms current 5G networks in terms of speed, latency, connection scale and energy consumption to achieve peak data rates of 10 gigabits per second for download and 1 gigabits per second for upload, as well as millisecond levels of latency and low-cost connectivity for Internet of Things (IOT).
Cities such as Beijing and Shanghai have already started offering 5G-A network services in some districts. – Xinhua
