CL | Bayern and Real draw in entertaining first semi-final

Bayern started the first semi-final furiously. It was Leroy Sané who should have given the Germans the lead early in the match, but it was Andriy Lunin who, just like in the previous round, took on a hero’s role early on by making an excellent save from the left winger’s effort.

Not much later, it was Sané again who had a good opportunity for the opening goal, but now from a slightly more difficult angle the Bayern attacker shot over. It was a sign that the German top club, initially the underdog against the Madrid team, was not going to give up easily.

Real collapses, but scores

Real opted for the same kind of tactics as against Manchester City in the previous round. It collapsed and initially let Bayern make the play. With Vinícius and Rodrygo, among others, it was lurking on the counter. Successfully.

Because where Sané missed the opportunities, it was Vinícius who gave the Spaniards the lead after a splitting pass from Toni Kroos. Real had what it wanted and could collapse further.

Resilient Bayern

Yet Bayern showed resilience and managed to turn the game around after halftime. First it was Sané who moved in and shot into the short corner. Not much later, Lucas Vazquez made a mistake and brought down Musiala in the penalty area. The penalty was used by Harry Kane, which suddenly gave Bayern the lead.

After that there were plenty of opportunities to extend the lead. Eric Dier was close to a third German goal, but his header went straight at Lunin. But after that chance for Bayern, Real woke up and came close to the equalizer a number of times. It also arrived about 10 minutes before time. Because the ball also hit the spot on the other side. Vinicius opened Kim Minjae’s present and made the score 2-2. That was also the final score, which means everything is still open for the return in Madrid.
