CLEVELAND, Ohio — With the game knotted at 2 in overtime on Wednesday, Cleveland Monsters right wing Rocco Grimaldi was able to flip the puck over the skate of Toronto Marlies goaltender Matt Murray, who was fully extended across the crease, for a game-winning goal to defeat the Marlies 3-2 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
Monsters left wing Owen Sillinger started the scoring with 1:26 left in the first period on a laser assist from Grimaldi that Sillinger slapped to the center of the net.
With 12:59 left in the second period, the Marlies answered with a goal by center Fraser Minten, assisted by Madison Bowey and Topi Niemela.
The Monsters and Marlies matched scores with a goal each in the third period, from the Monsters’ Curtis Hall and Marlies’ Robert Mastrosimone.
With the win, the Monsters are now 8-4-0-1 and in second place in the AHL’s North Division.
The Monsters’ next game is at the Providence Bruins on Friday.
