Suspicion: Curtiss Wright Parkway
A girl said Nov. 18 that she exited an Uber after her driver gave off “weird energy.”
She explained that she had been picked from the high school to be taken to her place of work in Willoughby, but she became concerned when the driver took a route that she was not familiar with.
She also mentioned that there was a language barrier between her and the driver.
Beachwood police sent an officer to the driver’s home to get his side of the story, but he was not there.
Fraud: Highland Road
A resident reported Nov. 22 that his grandson had been stealing money from him by transferring it into his own bank account.
He said the man is his caretaker and he estimated that he had taken $175,000 from him.
The incident is under investigation.
Unwanted guest: Ruth Ellen Drive
A man asked Nov. 23 that his stepdaughter be removed from his apartment due to her behavior.
He told responding officers that she had just recently began staying with him and he did not approve of the men in her life.
The stepdaughter subsequently gathered some personal items and left with her mother without incident.
Harassment: Highland Road
A woman reported a problem with a man in her apartment Nov. 22.
She said that he works as a salesman at an auto dealership where she had bought a vehicle and had subsequent problems with a key fob in which she was given a difficult time when seeking help.
When she saw him in her apartment lobby that morning, she said he would not speak to her and rolled his eyes.
Although officers explained to her that it was not a criminal matter, she asked that the incident be documented.
Theft: Catlin Road
A resident reported Nov. 23 that her garbage cans were stolen from her home.
She said she contacted Waste Management, but they had no information about the missing cans.
No suspects were identified and there were no neighbors that saw anything unusual.
Theft: Highland Road
A woman reported Nov. 18 that a check that had been mailed in the outdoor mailbox at the post office was found to have been attempted to be fraudulently cashed for $22,000 through a mobile banking app.
She said that she mailed that check and several others on Nov. 1 and the fraud was reported by her employer’s bank Nov. 14.
She said the payee’s name on the check had also been changed to that of a woman with a Cincinnati address.
The incident is under investigation by the postal inspector.
Traffic stop: Richmond Road
Upon a traffic stop near Merit Drive Nov. 19, the stopped vehicle rolled backwards into an officer’s cruiser.
It was not believed that the driver deliberately struck the officer’s vehicle as he explained that it was a rental vehicle, and he did not know it was still in gear.
The Cleveland man, 60, was cited for starting and backing and for child restraint usage as two of the four children were strapped in with the same seatbelt. He showed no signs of impairment.
Theft: Chardon Road
While on patrol around 12:45 a.m. Nov. 23, officers noticed a Sunoco employee in the parking lot of the business taking a photo of a car that was leaving.
As they followed the vehicle, dispatch relayed a report of a theft that had just occurred at the gas station.
The vehicle was stopped, and the passenger was found to be the suspect.
The Cleveland man, 40, had stolen nine different candy and snack items and was charged with theft. He was later released to Cleveland police on an active warrant.
