Council approves extended management agreement for Medina Municipal Airport

MEDINA, Ohio – After a successful year of airport management under Cold Stream Air Services, council has voted to extend a management agreement with the organization.

Law Director Greg Huber said the city entered into a lease agreement with Cold Stream last year to manage Medina Municipal Airport.

“It has been a pretty good year,” he said. “There were some sorting out of issues that came up across the year, but those were handled pretty well. Cold Stream asked to extend the lease agreement to a three-year term with a two-year option after that so it would be for a total of five years.”

Council voted unanimously to extend the agreement.

“It seems like things are getting better over there and will also improve with the extension of the runway that is in the hopper and also the property that was acquired over there,” Council President John Coyne said.

Coyne said the airport will need to go through the FAA to receive approval for the runway extension, but added that once the work is done, he thinks it will be good for the airport.

“I think that will improve viability for the airport as it will be used more by small businesses as little jets will be able to fly in there,” he said. “There are aircraft that currently can’t use the airport because the runway is too small, but I think the improvement will give the airport a boost for its survival. I think it is a unique feature we have here as not every community has an airport.”
