KUALA TERENGGANU, NOV 6 – A male sun bear was found dead after being hit by a vehicle at Kilometer (KM) 406 of East Coast Highway 2 (LPT) at approximately 8 this morning.
Director of the Department of Wildlife Protection and National Parks (Perhilitan) Terengganu Loo Kean Seong said the bear weighing 60 kilograms died at the scene of the incident due to severe head injuries.
He said the carcasses of wild animals were taken by members of Perhilitan and planted in a suitable area.
“Six members of Perhilitan rushed to the scene of the incident upon receiving the report, but the bear died due to severe head injuries.
“I advise people passing through the LPT2 area to be more careful, especially at night to avoid the same incident,” he said when met at Wisma Darul Iman.
In another development, Kean Seong said his party also received a report about a bear rolling in pain on the road in LPT2 believed to have been hit by a vehicle last Sunday.
A video of the incident was shared on Facebook by a user of the social site known as Khairul Nizam.
“We have directed members to the location of the incident which is at KM 422 LPT2 last Sunday but the bear has not been seen.
“We believe the wild animals have returned to the nearby forest. People who have relevant information can report to Perhilitan,” he said. – Named
