Culture and entertainment: She died on Friday with her family around her at home in Rutherford, California, the family said in a statement. No cause of death has been given.

The Coppola’s children Gian-Carlo, Roman and Sofia all appeared in their father’s films, and all entered the film industry as adults.

Daughter Sofia is one of her generation’s most renowned filmmakers as screenwriter and director of several films, including “Lost in Translation” and last year’s “Priscilla”, which she dedicated to her mother.

Much of the chaos was documented in what became one of the most famous films about filmmaking, Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse, released in 1991.

– I continued to film, but I had no idea… about the development in myself that I saw with my camera, she added. In the end, she recorded 60 hours of film.

The death comes just over a month before Francis Ford Coppola is to premiere “Megalopolis” at the Cannes Film Festival, a film that took him 40 years to make.

Eleanor Coppola documented the production of several of the man’s iconic films, including the very intense process of making “Apocalypse Now”. Filming in the Philippines lasted 238 days. During that time, several sets were destroyed by typhoons, lead actor Martin Sheen suffered a heart attack and one of the film crew died.

– I was just trying to distract myself with something to do, because we were there for so long. They wanted five minutes for a TV promo or something, and I thought sooner or later I would have five minutes of film. Then it went up to 15 minutes, she told CNN in 1991.
