JAKARTA, NOV 6 – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong held a constructive bilateral meeting today, discussing key topics including defense, trade, investment, food security, energy, and human resource development.
In a joint press conference at Istana Merdeka in Jakarta after the meeting, Prabowo said the two countries are committed to fully implement the defense cooperation agreement, including regulations for military training areas.
“Regarding economic cooperation, I hope that Singapore can facilitate wider market access for Indonesian products, including through the harmonization of regulations and standards,” he said.
The two leaders also discussed efforts to increase Singapore’s investment, especially in renewable energy, industrial rejuvenation, food security, digital technology, semiconductors, healthcare, and the new capital, Nusantara.
On low-carbon energy technologies, they discussed ongoing collaborative projects, including cross-border electricity connections, joint development of green hydrogen in Sumatra, solar power generation, and carbon capture and storage.
In the aspect of food security, the two leaders explored potential cooperation in technology transfer and exchange of expertise, especially in urban agriculture and the development of food farm areas.
For the development of human resources, the two countries agreed to increase cooperation in the fields of education, science, technology, digitization, and professional exchange.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues, with both stressing the importance of maintaining peace and security amid increasingly complex geopolitical challenges.
Prabowo expressed concern over the situation in Palestine and Lebanon, calling for an immediate end to violence, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and a two-state solution for Palestine and Israel.
On Myanmar, the two leaders reiterated their commitment to the five-point consensus, which focuses on inclusive dialogue and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
According to Prabowo, “Singapore is one of Indonesia’s closest neighbors and a very important friend. We have strong cooperation either bilaterally or within the framework of ASEAN.”
Wong acknowledged the growing geopolitical tensions, saying, “We are entering a more challenging era in global affairs, with more geopolitical tensions to manage.”
“But Indonesia and Singapore share many common strategic perspectives on the world. We want to be a friend to all, a good neighbor, and maintain close ties with the United States and China.
Both countries will continue to pursue an active and independent foreign policy aimed at achieving mutual benefit, protecting each other’s interests, and ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity for both countries and the wider Southeast Asian region,” he said.
Wong has been in Jakarta since yesterday for a two-day visit, which marks the first official visit hosted by Prabowo since his inauguration on October 20. – Named
