Sport: In a match where the teams took turns to be in line for advancement, Dortmund impressed greatly both before the break and towards the end of the match. It lasted for a 5-4 victory on aggregate after a 1-2 loss in Spain.

Veteran Marcel Sabitzer stood out in particular for the hosts, and he took the main role as the Germans went from 2-2 to 4-2 in the space of three minutes in the 2nd half. First with a signature run and subsequent sparkling cross to Niclas Füllkrug and then with a long shot into the corner that Atlético goalkeeper Jan Oblak had to bravely miss.

The midfielder from Austria also had a goal-scoring pass before half-time, and that was where Dortmund laid the foundation for the victory. After chances for both teams at the very start, the hosts took a firm grip on the match.

Five minutes later, the home team were on the move again, and Ian Maatsen was to score his first Champions League goal. In a beautiful attack, Sabitzer heel-kicked the ball to the left-back, who came at great speed and stuck the ball in at the bottom of the post.

Atlético looked harmless at this point, and the normally defensively strong team had conceded a goal for the eleventh game in a row. With 2-3 on aggregate after a half-played match in Germany, coach Diego Simeone is forced to take merciless measures.

Just three minutes after the break, the visitors got the score that equalized the double-header. Mario Hermoso was at the back of the field on a corner and headed towards goal, and the finish went via the leg of Hummels so that Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was unmarked.

Correa missed a great chance after 56 minutes, but was to succeed seven minutes later. Atlético countered with great force, and the Argentine got two chances. At first he was blocked, but then he hammered the ball into the goal via the crossbar and turned it all around.

Dortmund are in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2013. Paris Saint-Germain will be the opponents, and Julian Ryerson and his teammates will open at home.

The Norwegian made a fine appearance in Tuesday’s match and played all 90 minutes for the home team.

On Wednesday, three more Norwegians – Erling Braut Haaland, Oscar Bobb and Martin Ødegaard – have a chance to reach the semi-finals.

The first goal was delayed until 33 minutes had been played. Then Mats Hummels hit a sparkling outside pass to Julian Brandt, who quickly turned away from Axel Witsel and hammered the ball in via Oblak’s hand from an acute angle.

The former midfield terrier was relentless, replacing three players at half-time. Pablo Barrios, Ángel Correa and Rodrigo Riquelme were substituted, and they should help speed up the away team.

The overall lead was to last for seven minutes. Then Füllkrug made it 3-2 with a superb header, and it sent the Dortmund fans into ecstasy. Carried forward by the yellow wall, the hosts scored again and they managed to hold off the Atlético pressure towards the end.
