Sport: At the end of April, the Swede got over 6.24 in Chinese Xiamen at the end of April. On his home turf in Stockholm, he tried to set a new record, but it was not enough for the club king.

All of the three attempts at 6.25 were good, but the double WC and EC winner had to fall all times.

– He is all the way up there, but it didn’t want to be. For an athlete. It was intense, said NRK’s commentator Jann Post about Duplantis’ attempts.

Unsurprisingly, Duplantis was above the initial height, and in front of the Stockholm audience he first easily soared over 5.60. He then stood above 5.70, before showing strength at the next heights. With 6.00 he was the winner of the competition. In the end he tried his hand at 6.25, but it didn’t work.

Ahead of the Diamond League event at home, a study carried out using artificial intelligence showed that the 24-year-old was capable of jumping 6.51 metres.

– It really sounds like a dream height. Jumping 6.30 is my next big goal, but why stop there when I can go so much higher? I believe in setting high goals and working hard to achieve them,” Duplantis said in a statement.

He has yet to be beaten this season. He has won all eight events he has competed in. In the summer, he will try to defend the Olympic gold from Tokyo in 2021.

Next week, the 24-year-old defends the EC titles from Berlin (2018) and Munich (2022). Duplantis has also won the last two world championships in Eugene (2022) and Budapest (2023).
