Edmonton weather: Flurries turn to snowfall as wind chill drops to -28

It’s -19 C at the Edmonton Blatchford weather station with 10 km/h winds out of the northeast and a wind chill of -25.

Well, we’ve been lucky up until now, but there’s no denying it: a major snowfall is coming our way.

It starts Thursday, which will have a 60 per cent chance of flurries blown in by 15 km/h wind, with a high of -15 C and a brutal wind chill of -24. The winds will persist overnight, as will the 60 per cent chance of flurries, with the wind chill falling to -26. On Friday, the 30 per cent of flurries in the morning will become light snowfall by afternoon, blown on 20 km/h winds with a high of -17 C and a wind chill of -28.

The risk of frostbite will be especially high on Friday, so if you absolutely must go outside, please wear a toque and gloves!
