Actress, singer and entrepreneur Selena Gomez revealed another health condition she is living with in response to some people body shaming her on social media recently.
The body shaming towards Gomez stems from photos of her at the premiere of her film “Emilia Pérez” at the American French Film Festival in Hollywood, California, on Oct. 29. Some TikTok users criticized Gomez for posing with her hands across her stomach, claiming she was hiding her body, the Los Angeles Times reports. Gomez replied to a TikTok video in a now-deleted comment saying “This makes me sick.”
Gomez also shared that she has SIBO, or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. SIBO is an imbalance of microorganisms in the gut that can cause abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, nausea and more, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
“It flares up. I don’t care that I don’t look like a sick figure. I don’t have that body. End of story,” Gomez said in a now-deleted comment.
“No I am NOT a victim. I’m just human,” she added.
The “Only Murders in the Building” star has previously been open about her health diagnoses. In September, Gomez revealed she is unable to bear her own children due to an undisclosed medical diagnosis. She has also shared about her experience dealing with lupus, anxiety, bipolar disorder and depression.
Gomez co-founded online mental health platform Wondermind, along with her mother Mandy Teefey and Daniella Pearson, in 2022. She also founded her own makeup and cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty, in 2019. Those business successes, in addition to her acting and music stardom, propelled Gomez to recently becoming one of the youngest billionaires in the United States with an estimated net worth of $1.3 billion, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Gomez rose to fame as a teenager playing the role of Alex Russo on Disney Channel’s hit show, “Wizards of Waverly Place,” from 2007-2012. She will be reprising her role while serving as executive producer for the upcoming Disney+ sequel series, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” which will premier Oct. 29.
Gomez has also released three studio albums, “Stars Dance” in 2013, “Revival” in 2015 and “Rare” in 2020, all of which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 most popular albums chart.
