What’s his deal?
Delane’s commitment was one that safeties coach Matt Guerrieri wanted badly.
As one of the top players in the country, playing in one of the top high schools leagues in the country, he was one of the top priorities for an Ohio State secondary. After a few weeks of visits in June, he made the decision to land at Ohio State.
He was a player that Good Counsel could use all over the field, moving him to cornerback to linebacker, dependent on the opponent. He was trusted at all levels of the defense, and it showed on film .
His outlook at Ohio State
When he gets to Ohio State there’s not a reason that he can’t immediately make an impact in some way.
He’s got good size and is athletic enough that he can find a role on special teams, or perhaps even a place in the two-deep after Jordan Hancock and Lathan Ransom depart. He’s the type of player that can be used both at slot cornerback or at safety, and it depends on his fit when he gets to Columbus and where Ohio State wants to use him.
When he gets to Columbus, don’t expect him to make an immediate impact as a starter, though. He’ll have to join the line of safeties that could fill the role alongside Caleb Downs for next year. But him becoming an option for the 2026 season as a second-year player certainly isn’t off the table.
He’s got the versatility, and the talent, to do it all.
