CHICO — As the downpour continued Thursday, the north state started to see the effects of the rain.
The heavy rainfall this week has brought a slew of issues, particularly at Oroville City Hall where the basement flooded Thursday.
This was confirmed both by Mayor David Pittman and by staff assistant Jessica Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said crews have been working to pump the water out of the basement. There was no information on what the damage might have been at 2:30 pm Thursday.
The storm, which is projected to last through Friday and possibly part of Saturday has brought significant precipitation.
Some residents donned raincoats and took to the parks to splash in puddles with their young children or walk their dogs. Meanwhile, city officials such as Chico Fire Department Battalion Chief Wes Metroka could be found monitoring Big Chico Creek at the Five-Mile Recreation Area. On the other side of Chico, a PG&E crew worked to cut apart a tree in an orchard that came down on a power line.
Power outputs
More than 5,000 customers in the Chico area lost power at around 1:40 pm Thursday in relation to the stormy weather. The PG&E outage map noted that crews are currently working to restore the power. Power was restored by 4:25 pm Thursday, according to news release from the utility.
Areas affected were west of Highway 99 and include the Chapman neighborhood, Barber Yard, the neighborhoods surrounding downtown Chico, Mangrove Avenue, Vallombrosa Avenue and West Second Street.
PG&E also reported that 235 customers in and around the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area were without power at 9:45 a.m. Thursday but customers had their power restored later in the day.
The outage was unplanned and according to PG&E’s outage map, a crew is attempting to restore the power to the customers.
Other smaller outages were reported in the Chico area.
