BELAIT, NOV 24 – About 500 children and their parents and guardians celebrated the carnival in conjunction with World Children’s Day which took place at the Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC), Panaga, Seria, today.
The national level carnival organized by the Brunei Pediatric Association (BPS) together with the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports was completed by the Minister of Health, the Honorable Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar.
In line with this year’s theme, Every Child Has Rightsthe carnival aims to raise awareness about child safety.
At the event, BPS organized a drawing competition for children aged six to 16 and a poster competition for health staff.
A total of 130 entries for the children’s drawing competition were received for three age categories – children aged six to eight, children aged nine to 12 and children aged 13 to 16.
Prizes were awarded to the top five winners for each category of the drawing competition and the top three winners for the poster competition.
All the results of the drawings and poster participation were exhibited at the event.
In addition, pediatricians held three sharing sessions on child safety for parents and caregivers.
The activities held during the carnival include fun rungames like matching, fishing and bouncers.
Several vendors of food and drinks and various items also participated in the carnival. The United Nations commemorates World Children’s Day every year on November 20 since December 14, 1954 with the goal of fostering international cooperation in protecting children’s rights and prioritizing the well-being of children around the world.
