Sport: The two Norwegians were both part of the B heat.

Ingebrigtsen started promisingly, but he stiffened at the end and finished in eleventh place with a time of 3.44.03. Svela finished at the back with 3.44.97, which is a new personal best for him. Svela is EC-qualified in the 5000 metres.

No one in the B-heat met the requirements for the European Championships in Rome, which take place from 7-12. June.

Ingebrigtsen (31) took European Championship gold in the 1500 meters in Amsterdam in 2016. He took bronze during the World Championships in London the following year, but in recent years things have been poorer for the Sandnes runner, who has a personal best of 3.30.01.

Little brother Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Narve Gilje Nordås are already qualified for the EC in Italy.

Tobias Grønstad met the European Championship requirement of 800 meters on Saturday with a time of 1.45.06, which was enough to win. He beat his personal best, which previously stood at 1.45.67. The EC requirement is 1.45,20.

Also ready for the EC is Jacob Boutera, who ran into fourth place in the 3000 meter hurdles in a time of 8.22.94. The requirement is 8.25.00. Tom Erling Kårbø finished in 18th place with a time of 8:39.92.

Norway’s squad for the EC in Rome will be ready on 30 May.
